Amazon says it is in stock but that’s a lie. They estimate it will be in stock 9/20. If I knew this upfront I wouldn’t have payed for express shipping or I might have bought it some were else.

This is my first experience with a mouse with adjustable weights. Admittedly, I’m parent not a gamer, so I can’t tell you how my frag rate has improved on Half-Life, but for everyday use this mouse is simply the most comfortable I’ve ever had. After many experiments with cordless (Bluetooth and IR) mice I’ve come to the conclusion that I prefer the cord – interference with other electronic devices is a problem in our house, and a corded mouse puts the kibosh on that. My only minor gripe is that the feel of the scroll wheel stepper is a little rough – it’s unselectable with a button just behind the wheel, and I have mine turned off, but I do slightly prefer the feel of stepping on the scroll sheel to match page up/down shifts in web browsers. Apart from that very minor complaint, though, this mouse is flawless. The weights make a real difference to the feel – I prefer deliberate movement, so I have all the max weights installed in the base. The left and right click buttons are smooth and cause no stress on my hand (compared with a Dell Bluetooth mouse which was giving me carpal tunnel due to the tremendous pressure required just to click).
Don’t be fooled by the “gaming” tag – this is about as good a mouse as you could ask for, for any application.

I previously was using the MX518. The G500 is the same size. I have small hands and as other reviewers noted the DPI and macro buttons are not as easy to use due to their location and smaller size. If it wasn’t for that I would rate it 5 stars. It shouldn’t be a problem for people with average to large hands. Easy to setup and program. Movement is smooth and responsive for quick action. Perfect for games. The scroll wheel is very smooth and compared to other mice scrolls effortlessly so it takes a little getting used. (The button just below allows you to scroll smoothly without click stops.) I like the feel of it without the weights so haven’t tried them. I’ve not relegated the MX518 to backup.

I’ve had a lot of Logitech mice and this has to be one of my favorites so far. Great tracking, the scroll wheel has the best of both worlds, and the thumb buttons are more perfectly placed than my trusty MX1000.
I just started gaming on my Mac and I noticed that the wireless MX Revolution was not up to snuff so I picked up the G500. The difference was night and day. I don’t think I’ll ever go back to a wireless mouse.
There are a few cons though. I think the actual clicks could be a lot shorter. The click is somewhat large and hollow feeling. I also feel that the ergonomics are not as good as the MX Revolution or the older MX 1000. Finally, the mouse does not come with software support for OS X so you’ll need to find an alternative (SteerMouse, USB Overdrive, etc). OS X thinks the mouse is a keyboard the first time you plug it in.
All in all though, I’m a big fan of this mouse. So much so that I actually ordered a second one to leave at my office. Great price, great value, solid performance, and firm construction. What more can you ask for from a gaming mouse?
